A Sad Loss to all who were privileged to know him!
We were saddened to learn that Roger Guillemot, our dear friend, former President and great supporter of the National Modena Club of GB had passed away on Sunday 5 June at his home. His funeral took place at Champigny Crematorium with family and friends on 14 June. Patrick Laval kindly represented our Club.
He will be remembered for his longstanding association with the Modena pigeon, having triumphed with birds in the show pen at the highest level, almost exclusively in Gazzi. He established the European Championship Show and took the award of Champion of Europe with his birds. Not only a breeder of winning birds from existing quality stock, he had the great skill of developing colours rarely seen, such as Lavender Gazzi and Mottle Gazzi.
A familiar figure around our shows since the 1970s and a generous supporter of the development of Modenas here in England, he helped so many of us through sharing stock, his quick appraisal of birds in the show pens and sound advice on breeding. A respected judge across many continents, he had huge influence across the world in the development of the breed that was to him so dear.
We remember him for his passion, his positive nature and above all his great camaraderie amongst the Modena fraternity.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his family at this sad time.

Roger Guillemot of France over 50 years promoting the English Modena
Graham Lowe, the President of the NMC, organised the presentation of an award in the form of a glass plaque to Roger for his 50 year membership of our club,
the time, effort and judging he has undertaken promoting the English Modena. In addition to this Roger has helped towards
maintaining and improving the overall quality of our birds. The plaque was presented by long time friends
of Roger, Trevor and Daryl Richardson, at the French Modena National show held in Thiers, January 2008.
Roger is undoubtedly the elder statesman of the European Modena hobby. He has been involved with the European Modena Show
since it's early days, the beautiful, silver Guillemot Rosebowl is awarded for Best Modena at the European
show, which takes place every three years in a different European country.
Roger has also been given Life Membership of the National Modena Club of Great Britain.
